Chance for Mervue to bounce back

MERVUE United will hope to put the disappointment of their FAI Cup defeat behind them when they return to First Division action against Monaghan United at Terryland Park this evening (7.45pm).

Soundly beaten 3-1 by Dundalk in the Cup last weekend, Mervue will look to bounce back when they face Monaghan in a mid-table clash. With both sides tied at 15 points apiece on the league table, alongside Athlone, this presents Mervue will an excellent opportunity to put clear daylight between them and their rivals.

In many respects, the season is over for those outside the top four of leaders UCD, Shelbourne, Sporting Fingal and Waterford United as Kildare County – with an embarrassing one league point to their name after 14 games – are already destined once again to play the representatives from the ‘A’
championship.
