Champs Salthill to edge out Stars in 2012 final repeat

WITH Race Week out of the way, and Galway out of the race for the All-Ireland, focus shifts to the local scene as the county club senior football championship resumes this weekend after nine and 11 weeks’ break.

First up is a mouth-watering back-door replay between Killererin and Cortoon Shamrocks while the weekend finishes with the fascinating tie between reigning champions Salthill/Knocknacarra and last year’s runners-up Tuam Stars.

The latter is undoubtedly the glamour fixture of the round for neutrals but the two local derbies between Caltra v Mountbellew/Moylough and Naomh Anna Leitir Mór v An Cheathrú Rua should get the juices flowing.

St Michael’s and Annaghdown haven’t met in championship for a few years making it a novel pairing while it’s hard to know what to make of the match-up between title favourites Corofin and NUI Galway, who are very much an unknown quantity this season. The remaining of the last 16 matches will go ahead the following weekend.
