CEREMONY UNDERWAY TO MARK 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARAN AIRPORT

Celebrations are underway on the Aran island of Inis Mór to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of the island’s airport.

A ceremony is taking place at the airport in Killeaney, Inis Mór around now.

The first commercial flights were operated between Galway Airport and Inis Mor for a fare of £5 in 1970.

Galway West TD and Minister for Social Protection Eamon Ó Cuiv is presiding at the lunchtime ceremony.
