Housing estates in the city that are blighted by ‘antisocial behaviour’ could be rid of young troublemakers when new CCTV cameras come on stream early next year.

The cameras will be installed in green areas and entrances to estates in Ballybane and Ballinfoile to deter anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping.

The Ballinfoile RAPID Committee and the Ballybane Community Forum were both successful in securing grants of €5,000 for Community CCTV as part of the Galway City Development Board’s strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural Development.
