A businessman has been charged with operating a shebeen in a city casino.
Danny Kenny, (45), La Paradiso, Dominick Street, Galway, appeared before Galway District Court this week, charged with selling, exposing for sale and keeping for retail sale, wines, beers, spirits and cider, without being licensed to sell intoxicating liquor, at The 4 Aces, Dominick Street on February 28 last.
In a separate but related matter, Midnight Entertainment Ltd., trading as The 4 Aces Casino, with registered offices at 18/19 Dominick Street, Galway, has served notice on Galway Gardai looking for its property back, by bringing a application against the Superintendent, Mill Street Garda Station, Galway, under the Police Property Act, for the return of the liquor, together with containers, vessels, bottles, jugs and glasses, which had come into the possession of the Gardai.
A solicitor for the defendant and the company said a number of employees had been working at the casino but no longer had work there pending the hearing of the case.
Asking for a hearing date, “sooner rather than later”, the solicitor said the hearing would take up to half a day.
Judge Mary Fahy adjourned both matters for hearing to July 8.
