CASH FOR GOLD SHOPS MONITORED BY GARDAI
Date Published: 24-Feb-2010
Action is being taken to avoid the unloading of stolen jewellery into ‘cash for gold’ shops across the city.
There are three premises in the city which offer customers cash for gold valuables they no longer require.
At this week’s meeting of the city Joint Policing Committee, members raised concerns that burglars are using such shops to make quick cash on stolen property.
Over 550 city residents had their homes broken into last year, with cash, laptops and jewellery among the most common items stolen.
Superintendent Tom Curley of Galway Gardaí says officers have been assigned to monitor any suspicious dealings in these shops.
