Carraroe locals concerned about unanswered Garda calls
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Locals in Carraroe have expressed concerns after calls to the local Garda station were left unanswered.
Locals say they attempted to call the Gardai to report a number of ‘boy-racers’ in the Cheathru Rua area on Sunday night, and the calls were not answered.
Superintendent Kelly of Salthill Garda station told Galway Bay fm news that Carraroe is not a 24-hour station, and operates on a shift basis.
He says only one Garda station in any district operates on a 24-hour basis, and out-of-hours calls to Carraroe are diverted to the district station in Salthill.
In response to local’s concerns, Superintendent Kelly says the opening hours for the Carraroe Station are displayed on the station window.
However, local Carraroe councillor Seosamh O’Cuaig says this is a serious issue.
