CARNMORE TILER SUBSTANTIALLY FINED FOR NOT MAKING TAX RETURNS
Date Published: 11-Sep-2008
A Carnmore based tiling contractor has been fined over €60,000 at Galway District Court for failing to make tax returns over a five- year period.
Prosecuting State solicitor, Willie Kennedy said Sean Spellman was not present in court and had not replied to any correspondence about the matter from his office or from the Revenue Commissioners.
Mr. Kennedy said the 24 offences had initially come before the court on June 4 but as Mr. Spellman had failed to appear, they had been adjourned to this week’s court for hearing.
Mr. Kennedy said he had written two letters to Mr. Spellman informing him that penalties in excess of €50,000 could be imposed if the returns were not made but had received no reply.
He said Mr. Spellman had two previous convictions for failing to make tax returns in 2002 and had been fined €600 on that occasion.
