Carnmore must feel that they won

THOUGH Sarsfields emerged winners in this senior hurling championship clash at Athenry on Sunday evening, the real story concerned Carnmore’s fate and, indeed, Turloughmore’s.Both teams finished on two points apiece but it was Carnmore’s superior point scoring return which was eventually to make the difference when all the calculations were complete. They now face Gort in a preliminary quarter final opponents, but Turlough are now in relegation trouble.
There can be little doubt but that Sarsfields were the more composed and creative side. Their traditional ability to link the play was evident from the beginning and while they have a young side, they showed Carnmore’s Joe Garrett in possession against Sarsfields. enough skill to suggest that
they are a coming side. They had some outstanding performances, most notably from Adrian McMahon, Noel Kelly and, of course, Kerril Wade.
McMahon was inspirational in the first half and his anticipation and defending were top class. likewise, corner forward Kelly showed stylish touches throughout with his ability to make space before showing superb accuracy a notable feature, while Wade was outstanding, both in his free taking and from broken play.
Carnmore missed a number of chances and they never succeeded in matching Sarsfield’s fluency. Still, the battled to the end and despite…
