A popular Galway woman who has overcome breast cancer is putting all of her energy into a whole series of events for October – to help others on a similar journey.

And Nonie Fahy’s efforts are backed by her legion of friends – and her generous employers, who are rowing in behind her too.

Nonie, who is the manager of Flynn’s Supervalu in Lackagh, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2017 – and after treatment, she has now fully recovered.

But because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, she has chosen to champion a number of events to support Galway-based charity, the National Breast Cancer Research Institute who help to fund the breast cancer research team at the Lambe Institute, NUI Galway headed by Professor Michael Kerin.

And she has been joined in her quest by a host of Supervalu retailers and locals from Lackagh, Turloughmore and Claregalway.

During her treatment, Nonie was greatly moved by the number of women young and old, mothers with small children in prams sitting alongside her in Professor Kerin’s waiting room, all in need of his professional help in fighting this disease, and this inspired her to help the cause.

Thankfully Nonie is now fully recovered and has returned to work at Flynns of Lackagh where she has worked for over 40 years.

With the help of her employer, work colleagues, the local community and especially June Seale, Nonie has organised a series of events for the month.

The month long events begin on Sunday, October 6, when Topline Flynns will hold a ‘Colour Dash’ 5K Run/Walk from Flynns Topline.
