The campaign to secure funding for a new community school in Clifden has been brought before the Dáil.

Galway West TD Eamon O’ Cuiv raised the issue with the Minister of Education Ruairi Quinn this week.

He stressed that the school serves a vast area of West Connemara to Maam Cross to Clifden and from Roundstone to Leenane.

The school was not included in the funding allocation until the School Buildings Programme.

Speaking in Dail Eireann, Deputy O’Cuiv called on the Minister to reverse this decision and to meet a local delegation of campaigners from Connemara.

Answering on behalf of the Education Minister, Junior Minister and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon said while the project will be advanced incrementally over time due to current government budget constraints.
