Camogie clubs forced to go down the legal route
By John McIntyre
SARSFIELDS’ quest to retain the All-Ireland club senior camogie title may not be dead in the water after all.
For the reigning title holders are among a group of 35 clubs taking a legal case to the Disputes Resolution Authority over the Camogie Association’s decision to abandon the 2020 club championships.
The clubs involved – including Galway intermediate champions Clarinbridge – had proposed a three-week window during the summer to run off the All-Ireland series, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
County team managers have lent their support to the clubs’ initiative, but camogie’s top brass declined to even grant them a hearing.
This has led to the clubs going down the legal route and it’s expected that their case will be heard by the DRA on Friday of next week.
