Date Published: 19-May-2009
There are calls for the creation of specialist nursing positions in light of new data released on epilepsy incidence in the west.
Research released by Brainwave, the Irish Epilepsy Association, reveals that Galway and the west has a higher prevalence of epilepsy than the rest of the country.
Data collected in 2005 shows that the western region including Galway has the highest rates of epilepsy with ten point 8 cases per one thousand people.
By comparison, the eastern region has seven point nine cases per one thousand people during the same period.
