Calls for memorial for children’s mass grave near Tuam
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway Senator is calling for a memorial for 800 children whose bodies were found in a mass grave in Tuam.
Senator Hildegarde Naughton says the children’s bodies were buried without coffins in a disused septic tank on the grounds of the former Bon Secours home for unmarried mothers.
The children are thought to have been aged between two weeks and nine years old.
Community groups have already raised some funds towards a statue and a plaque containing the names of the children buried at the site.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Naughton said they deserve to be remembered.
