A clear policy on roads to be salted in times of freezing weather must be agreed upon for all parts of the county.

Councillor Sean Kyne says meetings in the Tuam, Oranmore, Connemara, Loughrea and Ballinasloe electoral areas must take place to decide on this course of action.

The roads strategic policy committee at Galway County Council is already considering the proposal and a report is expected in due course.

At this week’s meeting of Galway county Council- salt storage depots, to be funded by the NRA were given the green light for areas in Tuam and Loughrea.

However, Connemara based councillors did question if the quantity of salt that was being stored in areas of Oughterard and Spiddal was sufficient for these areas.
