Galway Bay fm newsroom – Young people living in Galway under the direct provision system are being denied access to third level education.
That’s according to City Cllr Cathal O’Conchuir, who claims residents in direct provision are not being given a decision on their refugee status.
The Sinn Fein Cllr says that in order for these students to attend third-level after the Leaving Cert, they face fees of up to 10 thousand euro while in receipt of only 19 euro per week.
Councillor O’ Conchuir say it’s an unfair and unreasonable system that’s been in place for 14 years.
