Call to scrap plan to refurbish Leisureland following flood damage

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The board of Leisureland is being urged to scrap refurbishment plans for the Salthill based complex and consider a completely new development.

Cathal Ó Conchúir, Sinn Féin local election candidate for Galway City West, says the complex should be relocated to a more suitable site, away from the shoreline.

It was significantly damaged due to severe flooding in January and the pool is likely to remain closed until October at the earliest due to required tiling work.

The Board held a meeting earlier this week (Apr 7) and said remedial works are being advanced with the assistance of the insurance company.

However Cathal Ó Conchúir says a new building is needed on an elevated site which is protected from future flooding.
