Call to reopen pedestrian walkway at Meelick Weir
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway East TD Paul Connaughton is calling on Waterways Ireland to provide the necessary funding to reopen the pedestrian walkway at Meelick Weir, near Eyrecourt.
The Fine Gael TD says the tourist attraction has been closed to the public for too long now and the walkway must be upgraded.
The 19th century amenity was damaged by flooding in 2009 and was later closed.
Deputy Connaughton says there is a plan to upgrade the sluice gates and the pedestrian walkway should also be incorporated.
He says it has huge potential to attract visitors to the area and is part of the Hymany Way.
