CALL TO FILL PLAY THERAPIST POSITION AT UHG PLAYROOM

A City Councillor is calling for a reprieve in the public sector recruitment moratorium to fill a play therapist position at the chilren’s playroom in UHG.

The HSE says the playroom in the Paediatric Unit is open from 10am to 12 noon on weekdays when it is supervised by a volunteer from the group ‘Children in Hospital Ireland’.

There hasn’t been a permanent play therapist at UHG in over a year since the previous post holder retired.

An exemption would be required from the public sector moratorium to recruit a replacement which, the HSE says, has not been possible to date.

City Cllr Niall McNeilis told Galway Bay fm news an exception must be made to ensure the vital service is sustained.
