Jobs in Tuam’s new ambulance base should be given to ambulance services staff who are from the town area, according to Cllr Paul O’Grady.

He told this week’s meeting of Tuam Town Council that even though some of those working in the service in Leinster want to come back they would lose their entitlements if they did so.

Director of Services Frank Gilmore said he was “astonished” at this.

He questioned if it was true as he understood that public service staff could take their years of service with them if moving to a new area.

But Cllr O’Grady says he has been told this by senior ambulance staff and it needs to be checked out and changed.
