Residents of a city housing estate have called for immediate action to be taken to end ongoing anti-social behaviour in the area.

A number of residents from Cnoc an Oirr attended last nights public meeting of the Joint policing committee in the Meryick hotel.

The event was organised as a public forum for questions on matters affecting policing in the city and was attended by to senior members of the city council and the gardai

Cnoc an Oirr residents believe the problem lies with landlords who are renting houses to anti-social tenants

They want the Gardai to consider charging landlords for call-outs to incidents of anti-social behaviour in homes owned by them.

City council director of services for housing Joe O Neill was also asked to investigate if an office of the private residential tenancies board can be de-centralised to Galway.

The board has been set up to take complaints and provide information and policy advice on the private rented sector.

Ann Mc Donagh says an office of PRTB in Galway would help ease the backlog of complaints
