Call for nuns to ‘return’ Taylor’s Hill site to city

AN appeal has been made by members of Galway City Council for the Sisters of Mercy to consider donating ten acres of valuable land atTaylors Hill to the city so that it can be developed into a public park.

City officials have been urged to meet with representatives of the Order to establish what possibility still exists for the lands – which were formerly home to the Lenaboy Industrial School – to be either given to the city free of charge or for it to be bought by the local authority at a reasonably low price.

A planned construction development at the site is currently under consideration by An Bord Pleanála, but local residents have called on the City Council to intervene and ……
