CALL FOR MCELWEE INQUIRY TO BE EXTENDED

There are calls for the inquiry into the Doctor Niall McElwee controversy to be extended.

The terms of reference of the inquiry have just been published, in a bid to determine why the childcare expert from Athenry was allowed to remain in his job, after he was convicted of a sexual offence in the Netherlands in 2005.

Niall McElwee who lives in Rockfield, Athenry, but originally came from St. Mary’s Road in the city also worked at childcare residence, Arús Gheal in Salthill 4 years ago.

It’s emerged that complaints were made about Doctor McElwee when he worked at Waterford IT before securing the AIT job.

Norah Gibbons of Barnardos says these too should be investigated.
