Call for Gardaí to monitor illegal dumping
A more vigorous monitoring of the Ballybane area by the City Council and Gardaí has been called for this week to try and tackle the ongoing problem of illegal dumping.
Despite a number of successful clean-up campaigns so far this year, the problem has returned – and worse than ever – according to local representatives.
One area of open ground close to a roadway in the Fana Glas area of Ballybane is strewn with old mattresses, cushions, timber, plastic and a collection of other waste materials.
Close by, a trailer load of old tyres has been emptied over the wall, posing a possible fire hazard in the area – the indiscriminate dumping has been condemned by a local councillor.
Cllr Terry O’Flaherty told the Galway City Tribune it ‘was absolutely shocking’ that this area was again subject to this kind of dumping.
“This really is very frustrating for the many, many residents who do everything they possibly can, to maintain their houses, estates and open areas in a clean and tidy way.”
