Galway Bay fm newsroom – There has been a decrease of a third in the number of community gardaí over the past 6 years.
That’s according to Sinn Féin city councillor Mairéad Farrell who says the number of community gardaí in Galway was 21 in 2011 but that dropped to 12 in 2017.
Nationally the number of community gardaí has dropped from over 11 hundred in 2011 to 691 last year.
Councillor Farrell says community gardaí make a huge difference in local communities and the Minister for Justice needs to reverse the decrease.
