Call for clarity on dual water payment structure for Galway farm families
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A proposal under which Galway farmers will be charged by both Irish Water and Galway County Council for water usage is a ‘real example’ of inefficency in the public service.
That’s according to the Irish Farmers Association, which says that Irish Water plans to charge for a portion of water used by the farm family household, while the County Council will charge for water used on the farm.
The IFA says it has sought a meeting with the Commission for Energy Regulation, which has responsbility for water pricing policy, to clarify.
IFA Environment and Rural Affairs Chairman Harold Kingston says farmers should not bear the cost of inefficiency and duplication in water services.
