Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway County Councillor is calling on state organisations with responsibility for children to set up a Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Unit in the West.
Councillor Sean Canney says in light of the recent mother and baby homes controversy, it’s time to discuss how society can make up for its mistakes.
He says the children who died in these homes should be remembered permanently by way of a fitting memorial which would benefit children in need of special care.
He’s made a submission to the Commission of Investigation on the matter, outlining his proposals.
The proposed unit would provide respite, palliative and residential care to children with life limiting and life threatening conditions.
Councillor Canney believes Tuam would be the ideal location for such a facility.
