Buyers in Australia and USA among bidders at ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ auction

More than 40 properties went under the hammer at the O’Donnellan & Joyce ‘Wild Atlantic Way’ auction last Friday.

Auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan said it was “without a doubt, the best Spring auction we’ve had in years”, with people spilling out into the foyer of the Harbour Hotel from the auction room.

Among the highlights of the sale were a three-bed house in Newcastle in the city and another in Tuam, which were snapped up by buyer in the United States and Australia.

Properties sold on the day include:

18 Grangemore, Rahoon Road, Galway. A four-bed detached house which had two bidders chasing it. With an Advised Minimum Value of €375,000 the bidding opened at €360,000 and after an intense burst bids, the hammer dropped at  €410,000.

203 Corrib Park, Newcastle, Galway. This three-bed family home has been extended upwards and outwards to provide plenty of living space for a growing family. It is ideally located adjacent to NUIG and UHG. The AMV was €225,000 and bidding opened at that with a proxy bidder. After 21 bids between a phone bidder, a proxy bidder and bidders in the room, the hammer dropped at the final bid of €262,000 to a phone bidder in America.

53 Newcastle Road, Galway. Only a five-minute walk to UHG and NUIG, the house needs complete refurbishment. The AMV was €220,000 and it sold for €310,000.

2 Mount Pleasant Drive, Shantalla. A five-bed family semi located adjacent to O hUiginn’s hardware and close to UHG and NUIG. The AMV was €290,000 and the property sold following the auction to an investor for €287,500.

84 Cúirt Seoige, Bohermore, Galway. A two-bed, first floor corner apartment, just eight minutes’ walk from the city centre. Private underground parking space and the NRG Health & Fitness Centre located onsite. The AMV was €220,000 and sold after the auction to an investor for €207,500.

35 Fionnuisce, Doughiska, Galway. Arranged over three storeys, this four-bed townhouse has large walk-in attic space and a private rear garden. The AMV was €150,000 and after two bidders pursued it, the hammer dropped at €174,000.

16 Hynes Yard, Dock Road. A city centre three-bed duplex apartment with views over Galway Docks, which had an AMV of €280,000. Bidding opened at €270,000 and the property was withdrawn at €290,000. It sold afterwards outside the room to a property investor.

19 Maigh Riocaird, Headford Road. A three-bed mid-terrace being sold with tenants in place (€875 per month). The AMV was €165,000 and after eleven bids, it sold for €181,000.
