There has also been an “overwhelming” response from potential investors in properties which will go for auction later this month.

More than 50 properties will be going under the hammer on July 24, and auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan told Tribune Property he is expecting interest from overseas in a number of properties in the catalogue.

“We have incredible diversity and value in this summer auction sale with over 50 properties. A substantial amount of them are throughout Galway City, including desirable locations like Devon Park, Merlin Park, Newcastle, Tirellan Heights and a large variety of city centre apartments.

“There are a number in the Salthill area with panoramic views of Galway Bay and the surrounding coastline.

“It will have incredible value, diversity and some very exceptional properties which will create excellent interest, which we anticipate from both home and abroad,” said Mr O’Donnellan.

Anne Harding, auction co-ordinator, said she has been overwhelmed by the reaction.

“It’s been particularly big from investors outside Galway looking to acquire residential investments within close proximity to the university and the city centre, of which there are a number going into the July auction.
