BUILDING WORK STOPS AT NUIG AS RECEIVER APPOINTED TO MCNAMARA CONSTRUCTION
Date Published: 12-Nov-2010
A receiver has been appointed to Michael McNamara Construction, which has a number of projects in Galway.
The company, owned by Clare businessman, Bernard McNamara, has contracts with NUIGalway.
The largest contract is for the construction of 3 research buildings.
Work is well underway on two of the NUIG buildings and is due to start shortly on the third building.
NUIG has confirmed that it’s working with members of the McNamara management team to progress the contracts.
The college will meet representatives of the receiver shortly as it says the buildings are of significant strategic importance to the University.
Meanwhile, around 20 construction workers have downed tools at Tallaght Institute of Technology claiming that they haven’t been paid by McNamara Construction for months.
In Letterkenny, up to 50 workers were turned away at the McNamara construction site of the new A&E unit at the hospital as worked ceased.
