Bruen’s Galway gig adds fuel to her musical fire!

With a tendency to hop from guitar to piano on stage and an ability to alternate between up-tempo pop and intimate folk, it is hardly a stretch to say that Tracy Bruen’s biggest musical asset is her versatility.  On Thursday, March 21, the multi-instrumentalist plays the Black Gate Cultural Centre with the backing of her talented band and the support of fellow Galway singer-songwriter Rachael Browne.

Tracy’s debut album Mirror received a wealth of support and critical acclaim upon its release in 2017.

The Black Gate will house her first gig in the city since last summer – and with a German tour booked for spring, Tracy has half-jokingly labelled the gig a petrol fundraiser.

“There’s five of us going this time round and it is expensive… you know, you’re funding it yourself,” Tracy admits.

“You’re looking at the cost of getting there, the cost of a car and petrol and staying there when you’re over. We do it as cheaply as possible and one of the great things about Germany is that a lot of the venues sort out accommodation.

“But costs are still high so we were just thinking about it and we definitely wanted to do a Galway gig because we haven’t gigged here in ages.

“We talked about a petrol fund and then that was the idea… it’s kind of a joke thing but it is going to raise money for travelling.”

Touring is crucial for any original artist trying to develop their career. There’s a refreshing honesty in the line of communication that a fundraiser creates. Tracy’s upcoming audience will be aware of just how valuable a donation to her act can be.
