Brother on Galway murder charge
A 40-year-old Galway man has been charged with the murder of his older brother, whose body was found dumped under a mound of rocks near the Cliffs of Moher this week.
Declan Ó Cualáin from Cuileán, Carraroe was brought before a special sitting of Galway District Court on Tuesday night.
He was charged with the murder of his brother Adrian Folan (41) at Lislarkin North, Liscannor, Co Clare last Friday, July 4.
Detective Sergeant Paudie O’Shea from Salthill Garda Station told Judge Mary Fahy that he charged Ó Cualáin at 6.55pm yesterday with murder, and under caution the defendant replied: “I am guilty of this offence and I am sorry for putting everyone through this.”
Ó Cualáin, dressed in navy jeans, a short-sleeved check shirt and runners, remained silent for the duration of the hearing.
Inspector Derek Gannon (prosecuting) applied to have the defendant remanded in custody to a sitting of Harristown District Court tomorrow.
Judge Fahy pointed out to defence solicitor Adrian MacLynn that because of the murder charge, any application for bail would have to be made in the High Court, and remanded him in custody.
