Broadband for Connemara

Fibre broadband will be rolled out to parts of Cornamona/Cloughbrack and Indreabhán by the end of January next, according to Eir.

The news has been welcomed by Galway West Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív as marking a major step forward in broadband provision for this area and brings great investment potential to the region.

“Rural Ireland has been deprived of vital infrastructure for years. Fibre broadband is no longer a luxury, it is essential for businesses and households, for day to day living and to attract investment and to create jobs,” he said.

“Here in west Galway, high speed broadband has been practically non-existent.  A recent survey found that Indreabhán had recorded one of the slowest speeds in the country. The rollout of fibre to parts of Cornamona/Cloughbrack and Indreabhán is a welcome step forward.

“But I want to see fibre made available to all homes and businesses in rural Ireland – it is already happening in some areas and should be rolled out nationwide,” he added.
