Broad variety of events as Fringe Festival moves online for 2020
The Galway Fringe Festival takes place from September 21-26, with most of its theatre, visual art, music, film, comedy, and spoken word being online for 2020.
So far, 20 acts from five countries have been confirmed with more to be added to the programme.
Theatre shows includes Come Here I Want Ya! – Stories of Ireland in the Changing Times with Gerry Conneely, which is billed as ‘a hilarious theatrical journey through contemporary Irish history’ as he recounts the country’s tentative efforts to get to grips with the modern world. It’s on Friday, September 25, at 8.30pm and is €12.
In Sam, Galway, and the Twelve Apostles, Andrew Carney focuses on the infamous 1983 All-Ireland football final between Dublin and Galway as he explores the social and political context of the era. It’s on September 26 at 8pm and is €12.
Eve O’Mahony also goes back in time in The Cute Whore – The Life and Times of Peg Plunkett, about an old, repentant Madam who reminisces about her past and wonders where it all went wrong. That’s at 6pm on September 12 and is €12.
Ultan Macken’s Galway Writers gives viewers a glimpse into the wealth of writers with roots in Galway, including his father Walter Macken. That’s at 6pm on September 21 and is €12.
Writer Tzarini Meyler explores the boundaries of the terms ‘cocoon’ and ‘isolation’ in Talking Icons, with each piece representing a different hour of the day and different character. It’s on at 5.30pm on September 25 and is €12.
