Brexit makes a meal out of shopping at M&S

From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Shoppers hoping to avail of a break from home cooking by picking up ready-made meals at Marks & Spencer in Galway City were left disappointed this week with the sight of empty shelves.

The UK-owned supermarket located in the Corrib Shopping Centre would not elaborate on how long it would take to restock to normal levels after delivery problems emerged on January 1 when Brexit became a reality.

A spokesperson for M&S also declined to comment on whether the change in customs and red tape would impact on jobs locally.

“Following the UK’s recent departure from the EU, we are transitioning to new processes and it is taking a little longer for some of our products to reach our stores,” she told the Galway City Tribune.

“We’re working closely with our partners and suppliers to ensure customers can continue to enjoy the same great range of products.”
