Brendan gets new year off to a funny start

Comedian Brendan Grace will return to Galway early in the new year for two shows. He’ll be in Salthill Hotel on Sunday, January 8, and in The Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe, on Wednesday, January 11.

When seen through the eyes of Brendan Grace, the world is a funny place. His creations include the sanctimonious priest who knows more than he’s telling with lines such as ‘blessed is he who gets married in the nick of time’. Or there’s the father of the bride, whose speech at his daughter’s wedding includes the damning observation: “she could have married someone with money; she could have married someone who was working. She could have married someone who wasn’t working . . .  but was willing to work . . .” He says it all.

Or there’s the schoolboy with the unspeakable personal habits and a fine line in sympathy pleas. Brendan Grace is all of these and more. Each cock-eyed portrait he paints has a ring of truth that audiences understand and love.

His material owes more to the best of the traditional stand-up-comics than it does to modern alternative humour and his show is something which all the family can enjoy.

Brendan’s off-stage persona is an additional reason for his abiding popularity as he makes himself available after each show for photos and ‘meet and greet’ sessions with fans.

■ Tickets for his show in the Salthill Hotel on January 8 are available from 091-522711, and for his Shearwater show on January 11, they can be bought from the hotel on 09096-30400 and from Ticketmaster.ie.
