Breen bundles United to lofty heights

THE new season might be just two games old, but Galway United are already enjoying their best start to a Premier Division campaign in 24 years after Garry Breen’s late goal on Friday night saw them take all three points against Dundalk on a blustery night in Terryland Park.
Written off as relegation certainties by many pundits at the start of the season, United are now the only side in the division with a 100% record and they are clear at the top by two points with a very winnable game away to Bray Wanderers ahead of them on Friday night.
The last time United made such an impressive start was in the 1985/86 season when they won five on the trot in a season that saw them finish a club high second in the table, two points behind Shamrock Rovers. It would be foolish to suggest such a feat will be emulated this season, given the quality and strength at the likes of Bohs, Derry, Cork and Pats, but if they continue their good start in the upcoming games against Bray, and a week later at home to Sligo Rovers in front of the TV cameras . . .
