BREAST CANCER SERVICES IMPROVE IN GALWAY

The Health Information and quality authority is recommending a review of the day oncology services at University Hospital Galway.
They also say transport arrangements for breast cancer patients with shared care between University Hospital Galway and Letterkenny General hospital need to be examined.
Their findings are revealed in a report on the eight centres of excellence, including a 122 page report on University Hospital Galway.
Overall, they state that Breast Cancer services in Galway and around the country has improved significantly over the past two years.
In Galway alone, 97 percent of new patients triaged as urgent were offered an appointment within 10 working days, whereas 74 percent of non urgent patients were seen within 6 weeks of their referral.
