Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Inni-K (Eithne Ní Chatháin) is one of the artists comissioned by Branar for this project which can be seen online on June 13.

Branar Téatar do Pháistí were in the middle of showcasing Sruth na Teanga, their project for Galway 2020, when Covid-19 shut down everything, including their beautiful, moving show about the evolution of the Irish language, which was their most ambitious work yet.

But while the show at the former Galway Airport had to close, Galway’s Branar, under artistic director Marc Mac Lochlainn, didn’t take things lying down.

Now they’re back, responding to the current situation with Pop-Up Poetry for Lil’ Peeps, a multi-platform poetry project for children aged six and under.

For it, Branar, in association with Children’s Books Ireland and Poetry Ireland, have commissioned Irish writers and artists Inni-k, Mary Murphy, Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin and Liz Weir to create new poems and nursery rhymes in Irish and English.

The world premiere of this project will be presented on Saturday, June 13, as part of the national Cruinniú na nÓg 2020 programme. The works will be performed by Conor Geoghegan, Helen Gregg, Inni-K and Zita Monahan McGowan, with original music by Miquel Barcelo and illustrations by Niamh Sharkey.

There will also be new audio recordings and new animations by artist Maeve Clancy, a regular Branar collaborator.
