Bowing out to ‘pursue personal pursuits’
The Managing Director of Galway Arts Centre, Páraic Breathnach, is retiring after 13 years in the position. The 64-year-old wants “to pursue his own personal creative pursuits”.
“During the ongoing lockdown I have started working on my autobiography and it has become a demanding endeavour to which I want to dedicate time in the future,” he said. “There are also a few plays and stories to be finished and I would like to return to working in acting and theatre design.”
As well as providing venues for the visual arts, theatre and performance, the city-based Arts Centre supports several theatre initiatives, including Galway Youth Theatre, Decadent Theatre Company and Red Bird Youth Collective. It hosts the annual Cúirt International Festival of Literature and supports several artist residencies and arts training programmes throughout the year.
