Boston Scientific plans further expansion in Galway

One of Galway’s biggest employers, med-tech giant Boston Scientific, is planning further expansion at its facility in Ballybrit.

The company, which employs more than 3,000 people in Galway, recently purchased an adjacent site from APC and is preparing a masterplan for expansion options.

It has already sought planning permission for changes to the APC carpark to create an additional 200 spaces – a lease which the company holds on 300 parking spaces at KCC in the business park is set to expire at the end of this month.

However, the expansion plans will be contingent on the exact route for the new N6 Ring Road (the outer bypass).

“Boston Scientific are investigating options in terms of expansion. If and when they decide to either (a) extend the existing main building, and (b) when the N6 Link Road route is finalised, an application for development will be accompanies with a proposal for permanent parking and landscaping.”
