Businesses in Galway will receive a boost this weekend as over a thousand Labour delegates descend on the city for their national conference.

The three day event, which takes place at the Bailey Allen hall at NUI Galway, begins this evening, and will include an address by party president Michael D. Higgins.

The conference will focus on local and national issues such as the economy, the banking crisis, and jobs.

There will also be a key note speech by party leader and Caltra native, Eamon Gilmore tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there are calls for the Labour party to show support for the Galway city outer bypass.

City Councillor and Fianna Fáil member Peter Keane claims the Labour party has been opposed to the bypass since its inception.
