Two men arrested in connection with a crackdown on organised crime in the west have been further remanded on continuing bail.

Paul Black of 48 Corruch Buí, Rahoon and Mark Dowling of 58 Castlepark, Ballybane were due to be served with books of evidence this week.

They’ve been charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Furthermore, they’ve been charged with doing so for the purpose of enhancing the ability of a criminal organisation between July 2009 and June 2010.

The men – aged 30 and 21 – were arrested as part of ‘Operation Foolscap’ which took place across the city and county last May.

Gardai raided 20 premises in Galway as part of the biggest ever operation into drugs and organised crime in the west.

Books of evidence were due to be served on Dowling and Black this week.

However, Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that they weren’t ready for service and the matter has been adjourned.

Both men have been remanded on continuing bail to appear before Galway District Court again on May 23rd
