Book of Condolence for Nelson Mandela opened in city
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A book of condolence on the death of Nelson Mandela has been opened at City Hall on College Road.
The former South African President, who opposed apartheid, passed away at his home in Johannesburg last night.
He visited Galway in June 2003 to accept an Honorary Law Degree from NUIG.
Mayor of Galway, Padraig Conneely says it’s important that the people of Galway get to express their condolences.
Iognáid Ó Muircheartaigh, who was President of NUIG at the time of Mandela’s conferring, says it was an incredible honour to host the icon.
