Book festival online for now – with new chapter in Autumn

This year’s Ennis Book Club Festival will feature a series of online readings and talks in March, with live events planned for September.

The 15th annual festival will kick off next Friday, March 5, with Ask the Author with Naoise Dolan, whose 2020 debut novel Exciting Times was described by The Times as ‘the book of the summer’. That’s at 6pm

Award-winning author and comedian Colm O’Regan will follow at 8pm. His novel Ann Devine: Handle with Care, published last year was praised by the Sunday Independent as ‘Reliably hilarious and charming’.

On Saturday, March 6, book clubs from across the country will have an opportunity to meet author Donal Ryan as he chats about his most recent novel, Strange Flowers. That event starts at 11.30am and runs until 4pm. Four slots of 30 minutes each are available and can be booked for up to 10 people. However, paces are limited and pre-registration is required.

On Saturday, at 6pm Kevin Barry will chat about his new short-story collection, That Old Country Music. That will be followed by a short film of the collection’s title story, made by artist and filmmaker, Laura Sheeran.

On Saturday night, novelist Roddy Doyle will discuss “stupid ideas, pubs, secrets and intimacy” with journalist and author Patrick Freyne.
