Bomb alert at Silver Strand as device washes up on shore

A SUSPECT device washed up at Rusheen Bay over the weekend proved to be harmless. The metal type object was spotted floating in the water of the bay at around 9.30 on Friday night last by a passerby.
Gardaí were then alerted and contact was made with the Irish Army who sent their bomb disposal unit to Salthill on Saturday.
Army experts used a controlled explosion on the object but it turned out to be completely harmless.
The area had been cordoned off as a safety precautionary measure late on Friday night and early on Saturday morning.
