Boil water notice issued for Leitir Mór scheme
Around 1,200 residents in Connemara have been hit with a boil water notice, after the potentially deadly cryptosporidium bug was detected in samples.
Irish Water, on the advice of the Health Service Executive, has issued a boil water notice on the Tír a Fhia/Leitir Mór Public Water Supply “due to the detection of cryptosporidium in the supply”.
A spokesperson said: “This public water supply serves a population of approximately 1,200 and the boil water notice has been issued in the interest of public health.
“All customers on the supply are advised to boil all water for drinking, food preparation, brushing of teeth and making of ice until further notice. Water can be used as normal for personal hygiene, bathing and flushing of toilets.
Irish Water and Galway County Council will continue to liaise with the Health Service Executive with a view to lifting the Boil Water Notice as soon as practicable.
“The Loch Hibirt Scheme is not included in this notice,” a spokesperson said.
