The boil water notice in the Clairnbridge area is being lifted today but will remain in place in Kilcolgan.

Traces of cryptosporidium were found in the public supply in Clairnbridge six months ago, and a boil notice has been in place since

The scheme was recently split in two and the Clairnbridge area is now being served by the Tuam Regional Water supply scheme.

After carrying out a number of tests the HSE is now satisfied with the quality of the water in this section

However the Kilcolgan area is served by the Kilcornan Spring and this water is still not fit for human consumption.

Intensive treatment works are being carried out on the supply but Council Director of Services for Water Jim Cullen could not specify when the boil notice will be lifted.

Mr Cullen says households still affected by the the boil notice will receive a letter today .
