Body recovered during search for missing fisherman

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Lifeboat crews searching for a missing fisherman in Galway Bay have located a body near Rinville in Oranmore.

The discovery was made at around 12.30pm by Galway RNLI crews assisted by the coastguard helicopter.

The lifeboat crew from Galway and the Aran Islands as well as inshore fishing boats and the coastguard helicopter have been involved in the search for a man missing from a boat since last night.

The alarm was raised when the fisherman, who had left the docks in the city around 3pm to check lobster pots in Galway Bay, did not return.

His anchored boat was located in the bay but there was no-one on board.

The body is understood to be that of the missing fisherman.
