Blueshirt book bargain!
Bradley Bytes – A sort of political column by Dara Bradley
It’s amazing what you’ll find in the bargain basement of Joyce’s Supermarket in Knocknacarra.
A reader sent us this photograph from the ‘reduced to clear’ section of the shop last weekend, which showed a copy of former Galway West Fine Gael TD Padraic McCormack’s autobiography, The Rocky Road to the Dáil’, a look at politics from the inside.
It was nestled between bunches of men’s brown socks, retailing at just €1 for five pairs; as well as a dustpan and brush at a knockdown price, and Christmas gift bags that Joyce’s was flogging for cheap.
The book was €18 but was reduced to €6.99, a mark down of over 60%. A bargain for any Blueshirt bookworm.
Minutes to remain private as Coach Station saga continues
The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) has upheld a decision by Galway City Council to refuse a Freedom of Information request to release minutes of meetings of the oversight steering group committee of Galway Coach Station.
The Coach Station operates under a 999-year lease from the Council. The Council has representation on a steering committee that discusses the operation of the station, including information about the charges levied on bus companies who use the facility.
Regular readers will be aware of ongoing issues between bus companies and the private coach station. The former are refusing to use the station, in part due to a hike in fees.
